Ron Coleman analyzes the chattering class' affection for [1]the
   defiant ones:

You always know the bad guys are losing when the opposition press
starts describing them as defiant. Arafat was always defiant.
Castro? Señor Desafiante. Not only losers â Iran is always
defiant. The little genocidal mullahs that could. As long as
theyâre on the other side, theyâre defiant or, as we see,
     frequently resilient.

As far as the BBC is concerned, [2]bin Laden and al Qaeda define
defiant. [3]Al-Qaeda is defiant over Bin Laden, his son is [4]Bin
Laden's son is defiant, the [5]Taleban is defiant over Bin Laden -
   it's a cycle of defiance.

For Juan Cole, Muqtada al Sadr are the defiant little Imams that could
   - Sadr & co. are [6]defiant in Najaf, they're [7]defiant in Basra,
they listen to [8]defiant sermons, they have defiant dogs.

Well, no they don't have defiant dogs because, you know, to these
'defiant' ones dogs are filthy, najis, like infidels, music and
   shaving.

Ron says: "Just do tell me when you read an MSM account of meek
submission, pathetic surrender or broken acknowledgment of defeat by
any enemy of the United States or its allies."

That'll never happen. After the Danish Cartoon controversy, we've know
that the media sees [9]meek submission and pathetic surrender as the
norm. They don't know what real defiance is.
