   Looks like the school administration once again stepped on it
   regarding snow and school.

   Last thursday, school officials canceled school after anywhere from
   1/16 of an inch to three inches of snow fell in the Portland area and
   was roundly criticized for the call.

   Today, our bus drivers were driving to work in falling snow that
   continued to thicken as we mounted our big yellow beasts. We have
   "on-spots" which are automatic chains that worked great. We continued
   to wonder how come we are driving today when school was cancelled
   Thursday. I reached my first stop five minutes early and was boarding
   the first child as the radio crackled with the announcement, "School
   is cancelled, return to the yard!" The snow started around 5:00 AM and
   continued non stop to about 1:00. I probably have at least three
   inches of snow in my backyard. [1]The Oregonian says

     While both storms hit early in the morning, the big difference
     today was that snowfall totaled up to 6 inches in what is shaping
     up as the biggest winter storm in three years.
