   Michael J. Kosares, founder of [1]USAGOLD, writes The dollar under
   siege at Le Metropole Cafe today. In his article he has this great
   table that illustrates what has happened since 1970.

   The author should have used 1971 as the base year because that was the
   year [2]Nixon closed the gold window.

   There are a lot of things to shake one's head at in the table. I never
   could understand why if the population went up 46%, why federal
   spending went up 1206% and the money supply went up 1216%. Notice,
   also, that the government wants us to believe that the CPI went up
   only 550% while the measure of inflation, Gold, went up over 1800%. Do
   you think the government is truthful with us? BTW, these trends began
   during the Vietnam war when we were trying to have both "guns and
   butter". Bush was nowhere around!
