   See, this is what I object to: [1]Jeff Merkley announces he is running
   to take out Sen. Gordon Smith and what are some of his campaign
   issues?

     I'm running for U.S. Senate because I believe we need to make some
     big changes in our country. And I believe George Bush and Gordon
     Smith are leading us in the wrong direction.

   What kind of "big changes" I ask?

     We must restore sanity to America's foreign policy, and regain the
     respect our nation has lost because of the tragic mistakes George
     Bush and Gordon Smith have made in Iraq. It's time to bring our
     military men and women home to their families.

   Sen. Obama wants to take all troops out of Iraq and send them into
   Pakistan. Sen. Clinton voted for the war and can't say she wouldn't
   again.

     Congress should pass a commonsense plan to ensure that all
     Americans -- young and old, rich and poor -- receive quality health
     care.

   Under George Bush Congress passed the biggest new entitlement program,
   Medicare Drug care. How much more can we afford?

     You can count on me to help launch a strong federal effort to make
     the switch to clean, renewable energy, and halt our headlong rush
     toward destructive climate change.

   Ethanol Hurts the Environment And Is One of America's Biggest
   Political Boondoggles.

     Oregon needs a new U.S. Senator who will bring a real passion to
     the job. A passion for tax fairness, public education and for
     helping ordinary, everyday Oregonians achieve their aspirations and
     make their dreams come true.

   This is code for I support the teachers' union and don't foresee any
   changes that will increase the graduation rate above 50% proficiency.
   Jeff, you can help Oregonians by getting government out of our lives.

     I believe we can put the public interest before the special
     interests in our nation's capital again.

   Will you support property rights or eminent domain? Will you support
   the John Doe law to protect air travelers or will you side with CAII?
   Will you come out of the Senate richer than when you went in?

     But I will fight for ordinary working families, not
     multi-millionaires.

   Aren't the multi-millionaires the ones that make contributions to
   campaigners? Will you really vote against their interests? Will you
   vote to close the borders? Will you move to enforce our immigration
   laws already on the books? While you are fighting, will you vote to
   take out Islamofascists where they live or wait until they come here?

   Jeff Markley, I can't see anything different. Why not just say, "I'm
   not Gorden Smith" and see if that works for you?
