   Dear Editor:
To justify his concern that a food shortage looms, Bill McKibben cites
one lone source: Lester Brown ("Getting Resourceful About Resources,"
Jan. 1). We can relax. For more than thirty years Brown has predicted
calamity, only to be proven wrong each time. For example, in 1995
Brown warned that China would soon suffer severe food shortages. But
in December 2004, the U.N. World Food Programme declared that China
   "no longer needs food aid."
Brown's prognostication record is worse than that of a dime-store
   crystal ball.
   Sincerely,
   Donald J. Boudreaux
