   California Congressman Tom Lantos (D) [1]has died of cancer of the
   esophagus. He was 80. Lantos was a Holocaust survivor who escaped a
   concentration camp and was protected by Swedish diplomat Raoul
   Wallenberg.

   Lantos was a strong voice for human rights in Congress. He was
   arrested for protesting over the genocide in Darfur outside the
   Sudanese embassy in 2006. last November he called the top executives
   of Yahoo! "moral pygmies" for helping Chinese authorities jail a
   journalist.

   I particularly like this quote from him.

     "It is only in the United States that a penniless survivor of the
     Holocaust and a fighter in the anti-Nazi underground could have
     received an education, raised a family and had the privilege of
     serving the last three decades of his life as a member of
     Congress," Lantos said upon announcing his retirement last month.
     "I will never be able to express fully my profoundly felt gratitude
     to this great country."
