   Okay, so "liberal" means "free-market" or "conservative" in most
   countries. But is [1]this really what "conservative" means in Britain?

     THE Conservatives [sic] will propose banning plasma screens and
     other energy-guzzling electrical goods in a report to be unveiled
     next week.

   And that's not even the weirdest part:

     The group will also suggest scrapping Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
     as a measure of the nationâs success in favour of a model that
     measures peopleâs happiness drawn up up by Friends of the Earth.

   Uh-huh. No word on whether they're also recommending the defence
   budget be scrapped in favor of commissioning a fleet of Yellow
   Submarines for purposes of spreading said happiness, but it seems
   inevitable.
