   I just got back from Southern California for a visit to the Marine
   Stepson. 3 days, 3 nights, 1 day flying and 600 miles on a convertible
   rental car getting reacquainted with a part of the country that I once
   made fun of but eventually came to like so much I got my degree there.

   I call these short trips "power vacations" and avoid as much contact
   with the news and computers as possible.

   So what did I miss? Not the Bin Laden video (that's the worst impostor
   I've seen since Saddam was on the run).
