Car Nostalgia
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1191697181.shtml
I've never been a big car lover, but of course lots of people are,
including my mom, so I'm familiar with the phenomenon. But in looking
at this [1]The Cars We Drove car nostalgia site, I was struck by
something: it's 2007, and while I know lots of people with a great
passion for cars of the 1960s, 1950s, and even earlier, I've run
across only a few with a passion for '70s era cars, and never run
across anyone with a great nostalgia for cars of the '80s or '90s.
A car manufactured in 1982 would be 25 years old now and qualify for
"classic" status if anyone loved it. Is it the case that I'm missing
something, and there's this crush of people who are into the cars of
that era, or, is it that the era of guys working on their own cars
started to fade by the '80s and the cars got less fun and now are so
high-tech that the guy down the block who works on your car for you
doesn't exist anymore, and thus our relationship with vehicles these
days is just different from what it once was?
