...decommissioning and reducing nuclear weapons has been [1]going on
since 1993. At a fairly active pace, as it happens.
The funny thing is that, for security reasons, the U.S. will not admit
how many or which nuclear bombs and bomb facilities it has disabled,
when it used to be public knowledge. But ever since the late Reagan
administration, "leading the world in reducing nuclear armaments" has
been a standing U.S. policy. And it's been happening over a decade and
a half.
In fact, while I do not support Obama (I do think a black President
could do wonders for this country, I truly do, but he's not
experienced enough to be that guy), I think he's actually pandering a
little here: "let's lead the world in reducing nuclear armaments." As
it turns out, the US and Russia have led the world in nuclear
disarmament since before Bill Clinton became President.
Senator Obama is not proposing that pixies and fairies protect us.
He's proposing that we do what we've been doing for damn near 20
years: reduce the nuclear arsenal. Whoopie. It's like Muhammed Ali
pledging to lead the world in fewer right hooks thrown.
