Superfast Robots

[1]Fascinating.
That story makes me wonder if the entire debate over outsourcing of
manufacturing jobs is soon to be entirely moot.
I honestly wonder where we as a society are going when all menial
labor and manufacturing jobs are gone--which I'd guess is 20 years
away, tops--and even when more and more skilled workers are replaced
by machines. For example, I recently had trouble with my new cell
phone, called my phone carrier, and talked to a robot for three
minutes and resolved the issue. And I say I talked to it, I didn't
punch numbers. Frankly it sounded very human--specifically, in fact,
it spoke like a young suburban black chick. The system was
sophisticated enough that the company obviously didn't feel the need
to even ask if I wanted to troubleshoot with a robot. It just dumped
me straight to the robot and let the robot deal with me.
And when I say I talked to it, I mean I talked. I didn't even once
press a number on the phone.
Tech and sales support jobs are on their way out. What's next?
