Spider-Man 3

I took The Elder Prince to see Spider-Man 3 this weekend. It was fun,
because I sprung it on him as a surprise. I told him we had to go run
some errands and he moaned about it. His attitude changed once we got
to the theater. Haha. Gotta love playing mind games on your kids.

He really liked it. Dad was a little less impressed. This is easily
the weakest of the three movies. The script was utterly incoherent. It
felt like the creators were getting lazy and not really respecting the
audience anymore. The movie also suffered from something that most of
the Batman movies (with the exception of Batman Begins) suffered from:
too many villains, resulting in too many plot elements and thus not
enough development on any of them. Everything felt rushed and forced.

I also have to say that while I realize that this is a comic book
movie, watching multiple people regularly take blows that would
instantly kill a normal person gets old when you see it too many
times. As the old saying goes, I agreed to suspend my disbelief, not
hang it from the neck until dead. Spider-Man's not supposed to be
invulnerable, just inhumanly strong and fast.

I give the movie a three out of five, just because the special effects
were so eye-poppingly good, and Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire are
still fun to watch, and because [1]J.K. Simmons is still the most
convincing and amusing portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson I've ever seen.
And what the heck, it's just a superhero comic book movie, and on that
   score they delivered well.

They could have done better though.
