The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1178029775.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week we've
got Riverbend on the wall, the Third Global War, an Arabic Onion, and
much, much more.
Nasim Fekrat of [1]Afghan Lord considers Afghan Attorney General Abdul
Jabar Sabit and freedom of the press in Afghanistan.
[2]Al-Ghad has the details of the Kurdish Regional Government's
rejection of the draft Iraqi oil law.
[3]Alive in Baghdad posts a video interview with a member of the Iraqi
insurgency.
I found this note at [4]Baghdad Bacon and Eggs on the effects of the
destruction of the Sarafiya bridge on his daily life interesting:
Ever since the Sarrafiya and Jadriya bridge bombings getting to and
from college has become a nightmare. I don't make use of the
Sarrafiya bridge and the next closest alternative is the Adhamiya
bridge which I don't use. Not until today that is. Sarrafiya bridge
has collapsed but the Jadriya bridge is fine. Last week Monday, I
was driving home at around five in the evening and decided to take
the Jadriya bridge. I ended up getting caught in a two hour traffic
jam that had no end in sight all because the government had the
bright idea of placing a checkpoint splat in the middle of the
Jadriya bridge and to let one car pass at a time so as to avoid any
further bridge carnage on what was a free-flowing bridge that used
to take five minutes to cross.
[5]Riverbend re-surfaces to complain about the wall that's being
built, reminisce about the good old days under Saddam, and mention
that she's planning to leave Iraq. Iraqi-American blogger [6]Iraqi
Mojo notes that Riverbend isn't telling the whole story.
[7]Baghdad Connect posts on the murder of a young Yezidi woman for
converting to Islam. A few hours later 11 Yezidis were murdered in
retaliation. There's more on this incident (including a link to a
video of it) at [8]Healing Iraq.
[9]Roads to Iraq is unhappy about Michael Totten.
[10]Iraqi Konfused Kid translates a bit of an Arab language equivalent
of The Onion. Here's a snippet about Iraq:
Iraq is the cradle of civillization, and Shish Kebab, and also have
produced several prominent torture techniques against enemies of
the prophet's household Nawasib and the grandchildren of al-Alqami
Rawafidh, the latter prefer to use electric drills while Nawasibs
prefer halal slaughter.
[11]Hammorabi posts on the two George Bushes, father and son. He
believes that stabilizing Iraq is essential and that the only way to
do that is sanctions against Iraq's neighbors. Omar of [12]Iraq the
Model is upset about the Congressional Democratic leadership's posture
on Iraq.
[13]Ibn al-Rafidain posts again on de-Ba'athification.
As usual I think that [14]Najeeb Hanoudi is completely right in his
assessments about what he calls the "Third Global War" and the roles
of the United States and Iraq in it.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [15]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
