The Fight That Never Ends

[1]This is sort of amazing:
Bush pulls nominee opposed by Dems over Swift Boat donation
President Bush on Wednesday withdrew the ambassadorial nomination
of businessman Sam Fox after Democrats denounced Fox for giving
money to a controversial conservative group that undermined Sen.
John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign.
...
At the end of the hearing last month, Obama told Fox he found his
testimony "somewhat unsatisfying."
"I would have preferred you saying, you know, 'In retrospect
looking back, contributing to the Swift Boat campaign was a mistake
and I wish I hadn't done it,"' Obama told Fox.
The relentless demonization of the Swift Vets is beginning to be
reminiscent of the endless efforts to rehabilitate [2]Alger Hiss'
reputation.
Apparently it is an article of faith among the MSM/DNC elite that the
254 Swift Vets who came forward to challenge Kerry's, shall we say,
conveniently airbrushed version of events regarding his service in
Vietnam were all lying Republican shills and nothing they said was
true (thus their coining of the malediction "Swiftboating" to mean a
dishonest smear campaign). But while some of the SBVFT allegations may
be disputed, they did bring attention to a number of deliberate
untruths propagated by Kerry's campaign (e.g., portions of his Winter
Soldier testimony, the Christmas in Cambodia story, the [3]noncombat
status of Swift Boat duty when he volunteered), some of whose falsity
was admitted or never disputed by the Kerry camp, as well as
accurately spotlighting Kerry's postwar comments denigrating U.S.
servicepeople. These critics seem to hold the Swift Vets to a much
higher standard than the man running for President.
Meanwhile, Dan Rather, who really did help promote a [4]proven lie
about a Presidential candidate, is [5]back on TV, and I'm guessing
being associated with him or Mary Mapes isn't exactly a political kiss
of death.
I'm often reminded in situations like this of what [6]Ford Prefect
said near the end of one of the HHGTG novels about an enemy trying to
destroy all life (paraphrased): "It's hopeless. We're going to lose.
Why? Because we just don't care as much as they do."
