The Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week we
have reactions to the fourth anniversary of the invasion, an interview
with a filmmaker, Iraq and Iran, and much, much more.

[1]Afghan Lord posts his interview of Sandra Schäfer, a German
   filmmaker and curator.

The fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq is much on the minds of
Iraqi bloggers this week. [2]Treasure of Baghdad has a very, very
lengthy but not-to-be-missed post. In the post he interviews six Iraqi
bloggers (and a number of Americans bloggers as well) on their
thoughts about the invasion and the situation in Iraq. Must read.
[3]Alive in Baghdad posts a vlog of the messages of a number of
ordinary Iraqis to Americans. They vary from "Help!" to "Get out!".
Breaking my custom of not including ex-pats in the CotL, take a look
at this post from [4]24 Steps to Liberty in which he recounts his
experiences as an Iraqi soldier during the early months of 2003. [5]An
Iraqi Tear has a lengthy recap of her version of the story.

[6]Baghdad Connect posts on action in the western Al-Amriya area of
Baghdad, which he characterizes as one of "the most sect-driven".
Pictures of the district (I think) from [7]Healing Iraq.
[8]Roads to Iraq reports that five of the Iraqi insurgent groups are
creating a unified command. All of the groups involved appear to be
Sunni Iraqi nationalist groups. I'm not sure whether this is a sign of
   strength or weakness.

[9]Caesar of Petra reacts to some of the quotes he is reading from
   Democratic Congressmen:

I don't know how can the withdrawal of the US troops bring the
peace on Iraq and take its people to a safe shore? I think the
coalition, including the Americans, should leave when the Iraqi
security forces are capable of doing the job on their own. It's
ironic that the so-called insurgents' policy of murdering members
of Iraq's police force is probably the major factor is keeping
foreign troops in Iraq. US troops should stay as long as it takes.
Leaving early will cause a civil war and leave Iraq in total ruin.

   Lots more.

Mohammed of [10]Iraqi the Model comments on tensions between Iraq and
   Iran:

Iâm almost certain Malikiâs statement during the conference last
Saturday caused disappointment in Tehran. For the first time the
head of state didnât use double standards in addressing Iraqâs
neighbors. Iran was addressed in the same tone that Suuni neighbors
were addressed. This by the very Shia premier Iran was hoping to
     make its puppet.

   Read the whole thing.

Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [11]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
