The Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week we
have violence against women in Afghanistan, a phone call, politics in
   Iraq, and much, much more.

One personal observation before I start the Carnival: the posts from
the Iraqi blogosphere by and large don't have the desparate quality
they had a few weeks ago. Make of that what you will.

[1]Afghan Lord (who won a Freedom of Expression blog award last year
from Reporters Without Borders) reports on the plight of women in
   Afghanistan. Photo montage.

[2]3eeraimedic posts a phone conversation with mom and dad in
Baghdad--how bad it was, what it's like now.

There's a video report on holiday drumming from [3]Alive in Baghdad.

[4]Baghdad Connect tells me about something I don't know: that there's
a program for gifted Iraqi students to study in the U. S. Anybody know
   anything of such a program?

[5]Children's Voice from Iraq has a rather uncharacteristic post in
which he cites Iranians, Syrians, Jordanians, Saudis, Yemenis,
Palestinians, and Kuwaitis for killing Iraqi kids and making them
   orphans.

[6]Sunshine has a long, rambling post about visiting a village outside
Mosul, a der (church? monstastery? shrine?), violence in Mosul, and
   more. Worth reading. Pictures. Video.

[7]Emotions... reports on an attack near her home.

Omar of [8]Iraq the Model posts on political developments in Iraq.

Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [9]The Glittering Eye.
The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
