Newsweek Has Rudy Up 25%

Yes, twenty-five percent.
Among registered Republicans, 59 percent said they backed the
former New York City mayor and 34 percent said they favored McCain,
who announced on Wednesday he would seek the presidency in 2008,
Newsweek said.
At some point people are going to have to take Giuliani's
ever-expanding lead seriously. I was somewhat amazed to hear the
entire panel on Brit Hume's show agree that McCain is actually the
frontrunner. I'm hearing that McCain has bought up many of the top
political consultants, so maybe it's just Beltway bias.
The argument against Rudy goes something like this quote from [1]the
Reuters article:
"Most registered Republicans are not familiar with Giuliani's
positions on key social issues," the magazine said, listing his
support for abortion rights and gun control as examples.
But the poll also finds:
"When asked about whether Giuliani's views on these same issues
would be enough to prevent them from supporting him, few registered
Republican voters said it would," it said.
I really haven't seen a lot of support for McCain on the right. At a
national level, his moderate stances rubbed a lot of Republicans the
wrong way (many still mock his media-bestowed appellation of
"maverick"). His main positive attribute seemed to be that it appeared
he could win a general election, and now Rudy polls better there too.
Giuliani, on the other hand, really made no enemies supporting
abortion and gay rights in New York City. And a lot of people would
like to see the Republican party move in [2]this direction:
"I believe the Republican Party's greatest contribution is when we
give more freedom to people."
