Fair and Balanced Fascism

Bruce "McQ" McQuain [1]breaks down the [2]newest effort to summon the
Fairness Doctrine back from its well-deserved grave.
In the spring of 2007, of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the
top five commercial station owners, 91 percent of the total weekday
talk radio programming was conservative, and only 9 percent was
progressive.
...
The obvious point ... have the FCC step in and force "fairness" by
ensuring the "progressive" (liberal) view is aired equally with the
conservative view on stations.
Meanwhile, Drudge has [3]this under the headline "Reporters give Dems
money over Republicans 9 to 1!" There's our fair and balanced media.
And Dems have the gall to complain about talk radio and boycott Fox
News.
Oddly, no one seems to be talking about regulating the print and
broadcast news media, or other disseminators of information like
colleges that also tend to lean left, in order to make them more
conservative.
This is why itâs so hard for me to vote Dem, despite that I agree with
a fair amount of their agenda; they have far fewer compunctions about
abusing government power to achieve political ends (there is a
minarchist current in the GOP largely absent from the other side of
the aisle). In 6 years of controlling both elected branches, the
Repubs never dreamed of regulating the media to make them more
politically agreeable. We can only imagine the shrieks of horror and
outrage that would emanate from the NYT, CNN, etc. were anyone to
entertain such fascist notions.
