   A [1]must-read analysis from Military Review.
   One of the best points made was that economic ties can go a long ways
   towards eliminating sectarian violence.
   Basically, the author argues there were some mistaken assumptions
   about the ineffectiveness of Iraq's industrial base, with fairly
   efficient state-owned factories being shut down, causing huge economic
   harm. These are now being brought back up with some success.
   Also interesting: Iraq's unemployment rate is only 18%, according to
   official statistics (though another 38% or more are underemployed).
   The number we see cited for unemployment in the press is always much
   higher.
