The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1184074238.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week we've
got an attack on the Green Zone, an encounter with the police, bloody
beginnings, and much more.
[1]Afghan Lord reports that the Taliban has resumed broadcasting from
a mobile FM setup in southern Afghanistan.
[2]SunLeaf says there's good news and bad news in Newsweek's increased
coverage of Afghanistan.
[3]Baghdad Connect has a brief, incomprehensible report on
developments from the point of view of the Iraqi resistance. Make of
it what you will.
I don't link to Sunshine's blog too often, mostly since I don't think
that the readers here would find it too interesting but you might want
to take this post that reflects on why her life now [4]isn't as much
fun as things were under Saddam. I suspect that her views reflect
those of many Iraqis, particularly prosperous Sunni Arabs.
[5]Iraqi Konfused Kid reviews Laura Poitras's P.O.V. documentary on
post-Saddam Iraq, [6]My Country, My Country which is available for
BitTorrent download, if you're interested.
[7]chikitita posts pictures of her world, her first foray into digital
photography with a borrowed camera.
In between complaints about the continuing carnage in Iraq, which he
blames primarily on Americans, [8]Hammorabi questions the timing of
the recent abortive terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow.
Omar of [9]Iraq the Model, with characteristic optimism, urges us to
look beyond the numbers on the surge (although he thinks the numbers
are pretty good). He hones in on a crucial point:
The internal struggle for power in Iraq will not end by pacifying
al-Qaeda or the militias. It will continue in different forms until
we have the correct legislations and institutions that can prevent
bloodshed by facilitating peaceful sharing of power and treasure in
a way that every individual or group get what they deserve, no more
and no less. It goes without saying that these legislations and
institutions will need an impartial, competent force to be able to
function efficiently.
I could produce a CotL from the posts of new Iraqi blogger
Last-Of-Iraqis alone. In [10]this one he recounts his encounter with
the Iraqi Ministry of Interior Police. Check it out.
[11]The Shaqawa reminds us that beginnings can mean a lot, in this
case the blood-drenched leap into prominence of Moqtada al-Sadr.
[12]Truth About Iraqis reports breaking news: there have been mortar
strikes on the Green Zone.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [13]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
