Silent Running

Saw a minor cult classic science fiction film this morning: [1]Silent
Running. I remember it made a huge impression on me when I first saw
it at probably somewhere between the ages of 8 and 10. I remember it
made me sad.
Saw it again and honestly while it's dated it still holds up pretty
well for a film made in 1972. Much of it is implausible of course, but
the special effects are at least as good as what was found in, say,
[2]2001: A Space Odyssey.
The story is another in a long line of dystopian future stories that
were wildly popular from the 1960s to about the 1980s. Still, the film
remains strangely compelling, even 35 years after its release.
