What Pakistan Was Supposed To Be

A lot of people, including Pakistanis, don't know this about the
founder of their nation, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, lovingly called "The
Great Leader":
âYou are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to
go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this State
of Pakistan⦠You may belong to any religion or caste or creedâ
that has nothing to do with the business of the Stateâ¦. We are
starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens
and equal citizens of one State⦠Now I think we should keep in
front of us our ideal and you will find that in course of time
Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be
Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal
faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of
the Stateâ¦â
It is on the basis of this that I make assertions like the following:
âThe founders of Pakistan knew what these extremists refuse to
accept: Muslims donât need a Shariah system to be Muslim.â
How did Pakistan go astray?
a) Jinnah died within one year of Pakistan's founding.
b) [1]This guy lived on too damn long.
