Cockroaches

Cockroaches were just part of the house when I grew up. You found
them. They were around. If you got up in the middle of the night, and
you turned the kitchen or bathroom light on, you'd watch them scurry
   away from the light.

When I grew up in southwestern Texas, they were big, maybe around the
size of the top knuckle of your thumb. When I moved to Chicago, they
were smaller, like the size of a lady's fake fingernail. But they were
always around. I think I was in my 20s before I ever lived in a home
   where they were not present.

They did not frighten or disgust me. They were just a fact of life.

   So were mice.

When I see a video like this, therefore, I barely even know what to
   make of it:

   [EMBED]

I have to be honest: while I chuckle, I don't know what to make of it.
"You saw a cockroach, and that's your reaction?"

I barely even comprehend the reaction, although others around me seem
   to relate. I don't.

You saw a cockroach? Really? That's your reaction to such a mundane
   event?

I don't get people who freak out when they see a mouse, either.
Literally: I fail to understand it. You're freaking out over what?

It's like freaking out if you discover that there's a possum living
under your house. I just don't get it.

   Seriously: I don't.

   (Thanks Bill.)
