The Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week it's
   mostly Saddam's execution.

THE topic in the Iraqi blogosphere was the execution of Saddam
Hussein. I collected some of the reactions of Iraqi bloggers earlier
[1]here and [2]here. What follows are some reactions that I haven't
   previously linked to.

[3]Asterism considers Saddam's fall which he believes really begin in
the 1980's (he also believes that Saddam was a U. S. agent). [4]24
Steps to Liberty reflects on the last 50 years of Iraq's political
   experience and concludes:

After this very brief summary of Iraqâs political struggle, I have
one more thing to say: Maybe itâs not the politicians or the rulers
that were wrong. I mean after 85 years, three kings and five
presidents, maybe itâs the people who need to be brought to
justice. Maybe it is the Iraqis who need to wake up and realize
that they get what they ask for, or, as was proven recently, they
get what they vote for. And maybe it is the Iraqis who should be
blamed for the chaos, not the governments. Donât you think?

[5]Riverbend has weighed in on Saddam's execution and, as you might
   expect, she's appalled:

One of the most advanced countries in the world did not help to
reconstruct Iraq, they didn't even help produce a decent
constitution. They did, however, contribute nicely to a kangaroo
court and a lynching. A lynching shall go down in history as
America's biggest accomplishment in Iraq. So who's next? Who hangs
for the hundreds of thousands who've died as a direct result of
this war and occupation? Bush? Blair? Maliki? Jaffari? Allawi?
     Chalabi?

She also has harsh words for the Maliki government and the press.
   [6]Iraqi Signor:

The epitome of inhumanity was this son of Satan: Saddam. Rot in
Hell. Lived like scum and died like scum.

Delilah of [7]My Not-So-Humble Opinion observes:

I do not know whether the government was trying to prove something
by executing the man like that. I only gather that they weren't
quite thinking of Iraq, they were only thinking of their own dear
followers. Even though most Iraqis are happy, the government might
have well earned the contempt of everybody other than their public
support-base, rather than that of all Iraqis.

Zappy of [8]Where Date Palms Grow has seen quite a bit of idiocy in
   the reactions to Saddam's execution.

Mohammed of [9]Iraq the Model analyzes the politics within the Shi'a
   bloc.

Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [10]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
