Declining Trust In Google
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1167593089.shtml
Instapundit notes that [1]trust in Google is deteriorating even
further than it already has.
Well of course it is. Look, they're a publicly traded multinational
corporation. As such, they are inherently amoral. They are in business
to make money, and that is all they are in business for. All else is
marketing.
It doesn't matter what line of business these large corporations are
in, either: software, internet services, pharmaceuticals, automobiles,
airplanes, whatever. They're in business to make money, and for
nothing except to make money. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling
himself. The only morality or ethics they follow is what the laws of
economics dictate, and whatever the legal environment they operate in
dictates.
If you want to see a company that works by fundamentally different
rules, you'll have to look to smaller enterprises. Family
owned-businesses, subchapter-S corporations, small partnerships, etc.
There's no set in stone number, but once you've gone past a small
handful of people controlling the business, that business is no longer
a moral entity in any realistic sense.
The aura of greatness that once surrounded Google needed to be blown
away. They stopped deserving one once they became publicly traded.
