The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1171985504.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers back on time
after last week's delayed publication. This week we have freedom of
speech in the new Afghanistan, helicopters, the rape of Sabrine, and
much, much more.
[1]Afghan Warrior re-posts an article of his on freedom of speech in
the new Afghanistan, originally published in the New York Times
[2]24 Steps to Liberty feels good.
[3]Alive in Baghdad has a video report on the Apache helicopters
flying over Baghdad. Mohammed of [4]Iraq the Model has noticed the
helicopters, too, and remains hopeful despite the recent attacks that
the new security plan will be successful. Check out the linked report.
Riverbend has re-surfaced to post about the allegations of rapes by
mostly Shi'ite Iraqi security forces of mostly Sunni Arab women. [5]In
this post she comments on the most highly-publicized of these cases,
that of Sabrine, who says that all that stopped her gang rape by Iraqi
Security was the arrival of American soldiers. In [6]the following
post she disparages Prime Minister Al-Maliki's reaction to the
allegations. This is an enormous story in Iraq which has been somewhat
under-reported here.
There may be more truth than he knows in [7]Baghdad Connect's closing
observation in his report on eating dinner in a restaurant with an
American friend.
[8]Iraqi Roulette has posted a short story.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [9]The Glittering Eye.
The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
