Brilliant Madness

This [1]rant by a Loyola University professor which Instapundit
recently got me thinking. Mind you, it's drearily familiar, I've seen
and heard a thousand arguments exactly like it.
What I wonder is, do the folks who talk and think like this honestly
believe that no one's heard their arguments, thought hard about them,
researched them, and at the end of the day found them utterly without
merit--found them hateful and stupid, in fact?
Furthermore, I wonder, do they really think what they're doing amounts
to no more than "criticism?" Or that I am obligated somehow to
"debate" them and their stupidity point-by-point to demonstrate my
intellectual worthiness?
What I found most fascinating of all about that professor's rant,
though, is that with just a slight bit of fiddling I could turn it
into a classic blogospheric rant about the evilness of Islam, and no
one would be able to tell the difference.
Anyone wanna watch me try?
