Question for Evangelical, Bible-Centrist Christians
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1171152229.shtml
You believe the Bible is the undisputed and inerrant Word of God, that
it contains all that God ever wanted to tell humanity, and that
through individual Bible study and talking to others who believe this,
you can learn all you need to know about Christian faith and
salvation.
I respect your right to believe that, and I have many friends who
believe it. I don't agree with it, and I don't approve of it. I don't
think the Bible itself makes any such claim, and I'm not sure this
belief of yours really leads you guys to the most healthy or
functional behaviors. I see--from my perspective--some pathologies
that this creed you hold to creates. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm
tragically wrong. Maybe even one day I will change my mind and decide
I was wrong and you were right all along. I grant all that.
Given all that though, I do have a question:
You do realize, don't you, that by taking this position on the Bible
you have taken a radical position and not a conservative or
traditionalist position? That your position is outside the mainstream
of Christianity as it is practiced by the vast majority of your fellow
Christians around the world?
Or do you just think I'm "attacking" you when I note this?
To ask it again in one simple question: You do understand that you're
in a very distinct minority amongst Christians worldwide, don't you?
