I don't mean to call anyone out. I honestly don't. It's wrong to do
that.
But, I added [1]Stupid Airplane Kerfuffle to our [2]Best Discussions
Archive.
I started that discussion mildly annoyed at what I thought was
juvenile politics. As it went on, I (and a few others) got steadily
more angry. I wasn't quite sure why I was getting angry, but then
[3]Martin Shoemaker">Martin Shoemaker crystallized why. For me.
Maybe I shouldn't have gotten angrier. Maybe I should have just gotten
more cool and rational. It's probably one of my main character flaws,
my inability to do this.
Oh well.
I respect conservatives. I briefly considered myself one of them. I
realized at some point I wasn't one, but I view conservatives--the
serious ones--as very important, vital members of our Republic.
But there is a point when they, just like the vital intellectual
liberals, sometimes lose focus, and lose it badly. (Because--shock of
shocks--they're human! As am I, of course.)
The discussion raised many interesting issues worth discussing, but
seriously: the one thing I always respect about you conservatives is
that you take tradition, and history, and security concerns, very
seriously.
And almost all of you fell down on the one job where you can almost be
counted on to get it right.
You failed because you lost your perspective, and decided that your
dislike of the current temporary Speaker of the House exceeded your
common sense.
Which is why I went from "annoyed" to "genuinely angry."
It's encapsulated [4]right here.
You weren't just being partisan and losing perspective (which we all
do on occasion). On this, you lost your frickin' minds.
You weren't just arguably wrong. You were not just a little wrong. You
were wrong, period.
And if you're the real conservatives I know and love and respect,
you'll say, "aw crap, you're right."
Not because Dean being right is what's important (it isn't) but
because you guys blew it big time.
So have I on many occasions, FWIW.
