A Shorter Primary Season Is Bad?

Larry Sabato, whom I normally consider one of the best and most astute
political observers, thinks the fact that California and other states
are moving their primaries to happen in January and February [1]is a
   recipe for disaster and insanity.

The more I think on it, however, the more I think this is not a bad
thing, and it is furthermore inevitable.

It will also have the effect of making Presidential races less
gruelling. Candidates will have about a year to become nationally
known and to develop a significant national base of support within
their party, and then over a period of a month or so will win or lose
their party's nomination. Then they can concentrate on winning the
general election about 8 months later.

I fail to see how this is disastrous for the country. It seems a lot
simpler and a lot less frustrating to watch to me.
