On The Amanda Marcotte Matter

I see that much is being made [1]in some conservative circles over
   John Edwards' new campaign blogmaster.

I'm rather divided on the matter. I have had the unfortunate
experience of having something intemperate I wrote in a moment of
weakness quoted against me. I have also had the experience of
something harsh I said quoted back at me in a carefully pruned, out of
context way that completely ignores my actual record and makes what I
say look say much worse, or even completely different, from what I
   actually intended.

   Happens all the time.

And one of the things I admire about blogging is that it IS a medium
where you can say what you want, and confront people when they do this
   to you.

I'm also weary--very, very weary--of the "conservative" impulse that
condemns "bad language." In fact I view such bluenosery with contempt.
And if you don't like it, f*ck you, don't read my blog.

On the flip side, I wouldn't expect any major politician to take me on
publicly as a high-profile member of his campaign. Because I do swear,
I do sometimes lose my temper, and I do speak my mind. I also am known
to get into arguments with someone where I say something deliberately
provocative to make a point, and I know that on occasion that WILL be
carefully pruned and isolated out of context and totally ignoring my
actual record. As a result I wouldn't expect to be offered a
high-profile, publicly visible job by a politician running for major
   office.

Like it or not, though, John Edwards will be judged by the company he
keeps. That's just a reality that anyone in a high-profile
publicity-centric job has to deal with.
