Huckabee Asks...

"Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
In Sunday's New York Times Magazine according to Fox News.
Is it a fair question to ask? I'd have to say so. While no person's
religion (or lack thereof) may exclude them from seeking public office
I think it's perfectly fair to grill them on their theological beliefs
(or lack thereof) just as it would be any other topic. Like it or not
the vast majority of the nation is religious to some degree or another
and to treat a candidate's faith (or lack thereof) as some kind of "no
fly zone" is illogical.
I find it impossible to believe that one's theological perspective (or
lack... I'm done... you get what I mean...), if sincerely held, cannot
have any bearing on their ability to perform in public office. And I
also think there's absolutely nothing wrong with that theological
belief doing so. Why must any religiously held position, that
manifests itself into a political position, be now filtered through a
secular sieve?
Additionally, as a religious person myself, I firmly believe that the
belief of our elected officials has a direct impact upon Adonai's
dealing with our nation. I want to vote for someone that is sincere in
their religious belief. And I don't mean "religious" as in generic
spiritual warm fuzziness. I want someone that genuinely believes that
Yeshua is the Son of Adonai because I believe that blessings will
follow that belief. Lacking that, I'd be perfectly happy voting for an
Adonai-fearing Jew too.
I'm puzzled why so many say, "God bless America." Especially after
9/11. I'm more and more frequently asking, "Why should He?" because it
seems we don't want national leaders that are fervent followers of His
Word. Why should God bless a nation that elects people we know only
give lip service to His Word? Last I looked Adonai blesses those that
keep His Word. Are you telling me that America is an Adonai-fearing
nation? You must be joking!
So, I think it's perfectly acceptable for Huckabee to grill Romney on
his faith. And, reading Fox's article, the answers for the spokeswoman
from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doesn't do much
to assuage my concerns:
We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God
is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means
that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children.
Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and
we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan
is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for.
This answer isn't adequate in my opinion. The question was, "Are Jesus
and Satan brothers?" Rather than saying, "That's impossible as not
only is Jesus God's only begotten Son, He's also God. One of the three
of the Godhead - the Holy Trinity," we get the above answer. Either
Yeshua is God or He is not. The whole 'brother' issue would be cleared
up by declaring Him as such. Kim Farah doesn't do that. She dances
around the issue instead of firmly saying, "No."
So, as much as Mormons may wish otherwise, unless you believe Yeshua
is Adonai you don't get to enter the club.
And if Mitt Romney doesn't believe the above then I cannot, in good
faithful conscience, vote for him. Regardless of his stance on other
issues.
It comes down to, for me, if I believe Adonai takes an active role in
our lives and the protection of our nation or not. If I do then it
comes upon me to make sure people that share my faith are put into
positions of power to ensure that the blessing of Adonai come upon us.
Am I looking to establish a theocracy? Absolutely not. History shows
me there is no need to. Weâve come as far as we have because of
Adonai's blessings and, unless I've been reading the wrong books,
we've never once wandered into the realm of theocracy. I wish to
maintain the traditions and practices that gave us those blessings and
Adonai-fearing governance is what made it possible. I'm not saying our
Founding Fathers were examples of religious perfection. They weren't.
But I believe their hearts were honest and earnest in seeking the will
of Adonai and seeing it done in their land. And that is what matters.
That is what Adonai looks for. An honest and sincere heart looking to
be obedient to Him.
For Adonai to bless America, America must seek Him. I want my vote to
put politicians in place that will do just that.
