   I've long been highly skeptical of electrical cars. Anyone who
   understands the laws of thermodynamics on even a simple level should
   know that electric cars are not a good alternative to burning gasoline
   or diesel fuel, because it's inefficient to first burn fuel to make
   electricity, then convert the electricity into kinetic power; it's
   more efficient to turn the fuel directly into motion. However, when I
   [1]read about this idea carefully, I realized that that does look like
   something that would at least be more efficient than any other
   electric car idea I've ever seen. Now if only we were smart and would
   combine ideas like that with giving up our insanely destructive fear
   of nuclear power (which is, by the way, the silver bullet for most of
   our energy needs), we might actually have something...
