Democracy: the Future of Europe

In [1]this post by my favorite Muslim activist, Ali Eteraz writes:

Steyn's argument is indeed alarmist. Basically, his book argues
that native Europeans are producing children far slower than Muslim
immigrants; and that since all Muslims are likely to want to seek
to impose sharia law, this means that in the near future, Europe
will soon become an illiberal "Eurabia". Along the way he blames
everything that happens to be left of himself.

The fatal flaw in his thesis is the pernicious idea that all
Muslims are one and will uniformly seek to impose sharia law. This
is a generalisation that even a crusty curmudgeon - and I use the
term most affectionately - such as Christopher Hitchens is
unwilling to accept. Citing the example of an Afghan refugee who
was killed in the London bombings, the Hitch added: "Many Muslims
actually have come to Europe for the advertised purposes -seeking
asylum and to build a better life."

In this paragraph at least, Ali concedes the demographics issue,
objecting, rather, to Steyn's assessment of their effects, namely,
that the results of coming Islamic electoral power will be, in the
words of Eteraz, "an illiberal "Eurabia", since "all Muslims are
likely to want to seek to impose sharia law."

Ali argues that Moslems are not of uniform opinion regarding the
imposition of illiberal laws. And that, therefore, there is nothing to
fear from a possible Islamic majority in Europe. (The previous
sentence is my assumption as to the conclusion of Ali's argument.)

My question to westerners is, if we assume Ali to be correct with
regard to popular Islamic sentiment about illiberal laws, whether or
not they would be comfortable with Europe going Moslem?

Do 'native' Europeans have a choice in the matter?

   Should they?

Maybe they should have asked history exactly where insufficient
   breading brings a culture.
