TNR "Scott Thomas" Admits Fabrication, Army Finds No Corroboration
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1186452777.shtml
Apologies to DW readers, I've been remiss on updating this due to
other obligations. Fortunately, Ace and Hotair have been all over it.
The major developments have been: TNR issued a correction saying the
incident wherein Scott and his buddies mocked a disfigured woman
actually happened in Kuwait, the Kuwaiti base public affairs officer
said that the incident was a "myth or urban legend," and the Army's
investigation of the other allegations found them to have no basis.
Now, TNR has tried to play off the "oops, Kuwait not Iraq" problem as
no big deal, but [1]as Ace notes when you read the piece it's pretty
clear that admission utterly destroys Beauchamp's credibility, because
much like John Forbes Kerry claiming his secret Christmas in Cambodia
mission was "seared, seared" into his memory, Scott Thomas Beauchamp
frames the entire incident around his supposedly becoming callous
because of the horrible dehumanizing war -- a war which he hadn't been
in the same country with, at that point. And, if that weren't enough,
the Kuwaiti base PAO says it never happened there either.
More later, hopefully. In another highly entertaining leftist
delusion, the old Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy gag involving the
threat "You'll have a national philsopher's strike on your hands!" has
come horribly true.
Life imitates art, but it's funnier when life imitates parody.
UPDATE: As I'm writing this, [2]Glenn has an update saying Beauchamp
has fully recanted in a sworn statement. Wow. Amazing, if true.
I was going to add links to a lot of stuff above, but it seems fairly
pointless now.
