The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1158675845.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got Benedict XVI, the dangers of everyday life, and much more.
Miraj of [1]Baghdad Chronicles posts her recipe for the New Iraq.
[2]Baghdad Connection reports that the partitioning of Iraq into
autonomous regions is well under way.
[3]Roads to Iraq translates the results of a poll taken by Al-Jazeera.
This post from Sunshine of [4]Days of My Life is a pretty good
illustration of the dangers of daily life in Mosul these days and the
difficulties of winning hearts and minds.
[5]Freedom of Mind posts on the brouhaha surrounding Benedict XVI's
recent address. And he gets it. Mohammed of [6]Iraq the Model gets it,
too and makes a good point in response to those who question the
prudence of Benedict's use of the offending quotation:
Some accuse the pope of bad timing but I wonder what is going to be
the best time to accept criticism and accept questions? Next year?
a decade from now? When?
There will no be such time for our clerics who derive their power
from this history, and to them, questioning or criticizing this
history is a threat to their holiness and power.
Read his post for a look at the historical record.
[7]Hammorabi suggests that the U. S. failure in both Iraq and
Afghanistan is a sign of America's decline.
[8]Ibn Al-Rafidain writes a post using his collection of bullets fired
at his house as a stepping-off point. The post is sometimes amusing,
sometimes sad. I found this sentence telling:
Since 1968 Iraq cities retrograded in their values toward tribal
traditions.
Ishtar of [9]Iraqi Screen returns from hiatus to post on the dangers
posed by sectarian militias.
It looks like [10]neurotic iraqi wife is going back to Iraq. See also
her observations about the United States.
[11]The Mesopotamian publishes a long, meandering post that ends with
this tantalizing snippet:
As a footnote I would like to draw your attention to [12]this. I
have some inside information regarding the situation in the Anbar,
where there is a real split amongst the Dulaim Tribes into
anti-terrorist and pro-terrorist camps. That might be a subject for
an interesting future post.
We look forward to it.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [13]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
