   Omar at ITM notes that [1]disaster is in the eye of the beholder.
   Stability serves the status quo, but the assumption that the status
   quo in the Mideast is good really only makes sense if you're part of
   the oppressive ruling classes of those states.
   As for Iraq itself, even with the everpresent violence there has been
   steady progress every year despite the best efforts of those trying to
   murder their way into power. Saddam was removed (2003), Iraqis and the
   coalition established an interim govât (2004), they held three votes
   (2005), Zarqawi was killed and Iraqâs constitutional government has
   been seated (2006). 300,000 ISF have now been trained and are
   gradually taking over security and being transitioned to the control
   of the elected Iraqi government, to the point we expect U.S. troops to
   be mostly in a support role by late 2007.
