It's Campaign Season!

Traditionally, Labor Day marks the day when Americans start seriously
thinking about the November elections, which are now only 2 months
away. The mid-term elections, which will determine the makeup of the
Senate and the House for the next two years, will be fairly intense
   this year (they're usually boring).

Much is going to depend this year on voter attitudes, and even moreso
on turnout. Typically, most voters skip these mid-term elections, so
whichever party does the better job of getting their voters to show up
and vote on election day tends to do best.

An angry electorate with a "throw the bums out" mentality is likely to
cause a change of control in either or both houses of Congress. Larry
Sabato, one of the most reliable American political analysts, has
projections for the [1]Senate and [2]House races. At the moment--and
of course this could change between now and November--it looks like
Republicans are likely to retain control of the Senate but lose the
House. Even their advantage in the Senate is slim, however, and they
may wind up losing both chambers.
