   We're going to keep running this pledge drive for about the next week.
   I hope you can all put up with it.

   Dean's World puts out dynamite content every day that never kowtows to
   anyone's party line. Indeed, I know we p**s off someone every day. I
   have the emails to prove it.

   We're independent, and we're proud of it, and we try to give voice to
   independent voices, or facts that are inconvenient to a lot of
   people's worldview. Yes, we're unapologetically pro-American, and we
   don't put up with people who are abusive or nasty. But as long as you
   don't make it about me or my family, and as long as you're ready to
   stand up on your own two feet and defend your point of view, and state
   your position clearly and without cheap shots, we'll let it stand.

   Not that we are perfect in that regard. We aren't. Many is the time
   someone has corrected me, especially when I failed to live up to our
   best ideals.

   But out of all the blogs out there, I think I can make one very solid
   brag: we have tens of thousands of daily readers (no brag, just fact).
   But we don't let just anyone comment here. Alone among high-traffic
   blogs, we can honestly say something that very few others can say: if
   you click on the "comments" link to most articles, you will find
   something there worth reading. You may love it, you may hate it. You
   may laugh or you may be incensed. You may even laugh and say they fed
   us our lunch (which they frequently do). But we don't play here. You'd
   best bring your "A" game, or you'd best not comment at all.

   Agree with me? BWAHAHAHA! Not a day goes by that someone doesn't
   disagree with me about something. Indeed, many a commenter has humbled
   me. Some of them became front-page contributors as a result. Bring it
   on!

   In the [1]Ecosystem, we remain perpetually and easily in the top 30
   worldwide. Why? Because we're beloved by the right-wingers? Don't make
   me laugh. The only people who hate us more than the ultra-right
   wingers are the ultra-left wingers. Again, I have the hate-mail to
   prove it in either case.

   We're probably "center-right," if that label means anything. But I
   think we are alone among such "center-right" bloggers to say that you
   will always find yourself challenged by whatever is on the front page.
   And, almost as important, if you click on that "comments" link, you
   will almost invariably find something worth reading. There's a reason
   for that, and don't kid yourself into thinking that a lot of work
   didn't go into making that happen. I put an enormous amount of work
   into this site every day.

   So anyway, I'm asking for your help. I did that once before about 2
   years ago, when I collapsed into an alchoholic stupor just from the
   sheer stress of it all. Now I've corrected a lot of that, but I'm
   between jobs right now and my former employer is fighting my
   Unemployment check. So I could use a little help. If you can, I'd
   appreciate it. And if you can't, or just don't want to, that's okay
