Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got tribal skirmishes, the death of an author, tightened
security in Baghdad, and much more.
[1]Baghdad Connect continues to be an interesting source of news or,
maybe, gossip that you don't see anywhere else. In [2]this post he
notes tribal rivalry for "protecting" the oil pipelines in the western
Iraqi province. In [3]this he comments about non-Iraqi members of the
new Iraqi armed forces. Has anyone else read reports of this?
There's lots of interesting (if resolutely anti-American) stuff at
[4]Roads to Iraq, too. Check out [5]this piece on Iraqi death squads
translated by LadyBird from Quds-Press.
Zeyad of [6]Healing Iraq has posted about the death of Naguib Mahfouz,
who won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Omar of [7]Iraq the Model reports an interesting conversation that
casts some light on the sectarian violence going on in Iraq.
[8]Where Date Palms Grow explains the downside of tightening security
in Baghdad.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [9]The Glittering Eye.
The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
