The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1161701624.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week we
have prisoner exchange, the continuing controversy on the Lancet
report, reports of killings, kidnappings, and cover-ups, and much
more.
[1]Afghan Lord posts on a very bizarre situation: Islamist extremists
have kidnapped an Italian convert to Islam and demand in exchange for
his release an Afghan converted to Christianity, currently harbored in
Italy. As he points out, this sounds like a disincentive for
conversion to Islam.
It's been a big week in the Iraqi blogosphere, with Iraqi bloggers
organizing and polling each other's opinion as never before. For the
complete lowdown and links [2]see here. The source of the ferment has
been the Lancet report of fatalities in Iraq and the controversy
continues. Najma of [3]A Star from Mosul points out the mess in Mosul
and puts in her two cents. [4]An Iraqi Tear comments. [5]Baghdad
Chronicles makes her own observations about the issue and the
reactions of other Iraqi bloggers. [6]Baghdad Connect says the
political factions and government are playing the study down.
[7]Iraqi Konfused Kollege Kid, who organized the debate among Iraqi
bloggers last week, posts on the meeting in Mecca of Sunni religious
leaders on the sectarian violence in Iraq. Omar of [8]Iraq the Model
comments on the Mecca document.
[9]Roads to Iraq translates a few observations on the situation in
Iraq from Arab dailies.
Five Rings bids [10]farewell to Ramadan and [11]welcomes Eid as does
[12]Hammorabi.
[13]Imad Khadduri has a report on the explosions in a U. S. ammo dump
that you probably should read.
[14]Iraqi Screen has a horrifying story of a Shi'ite death squad.
Delilah of [15]MNSHO responds to the questions of an Australian
blogger. Her responses are worth reading.
[16]neurotic iraqi wife's most recent post from inside the Green Zone
suggests that the sectarian tensions are increasing there, too.
[17]Sooni posts on the Islamic state recently declared in Iraq.
[18]The Mesopotamian posts on this as well and notes that it's not
just wearing short, women driving, and listening to music that has
been forbidden there but pickles, bread, and knives and forks.
Zappy of [19]Where Date Palms Grow witnesses an abduction.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [20]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
