   Today marks the anniversary of two events, neither of them happy ones.
   It is the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising, brutally put
   down by the Soviets, and it's the 23rd anniversary of the Beirut
   barracks bombing incident in which 241 American servicemen lost their
   lives as the result of a suicide attack--our largest loss of life due
   to Islamist terrorism until 9/11.

   I've put my own reflections on these two events and mused on some ways
