The Soul Of The Muslim Woman

Aisha, my half-sister and co-blogger over at Eteraz, has penned a
message to Muslim men called [1]To My Dear Brothers.
It is a response to my perhaps too provocative piece directed to the
hijab-wearing Muslim women called [2]To My Dear Hijabi Sisters. I was
accused of being too lascivious and too immoral.
Aisha, who herself wears the hijab (in the Jlo style), had long been
itching to write a response, and now she has.
I don't expect, or even care, for many non-Muslims to understand the
numerous dimensions and dynamics of this dialogue. The only reason I
am highlighting it here at Dean's is 1) because I can, and 2) to
illustrate to non-Muslims that mythical "insider dialogue" I am always
talking about but which you rarely get to see.
People like Hrsi Ali and Robert Spencer thrive on telling you all that
Muslims don't really talk to each other or question each other. If you
are a non-Muslim it is actually very easy to believe that. In fact, I
almost excuse it. Muslims, like most other identity groups, are very
protective of their internal dialogues (although I think Muslims tend
to be more protective). That does not, however, mean that Muslims
aren't engaged in "live" head-butting.
Another example of such internal critique was when I got a whole
debate on Islamic Traditionalism chugging back when no one knew who I
was. It ended up with close to 30 different posts on multiple Muslim
blogs. So, the internal discussion is out there, you don't see it
much, so why not [3]take this chance to watch it.
