Putting in my oar

Progress in Iraq is glacially slow if there's any at all. Only [1]two
of Iraq's 18 provinces are under the control of the Iraqi government.
The U. S. military challenges Iraqi sovereignty by seizing a former
government minister convicted of corruption from an Iraqi court.

Old hawks like [2]John Warner are going wobbly. Foreign policy
realists like James Baker who are demonstrably responsible for the
policies (support of repressive regimes, overthrow of democratic
government) our enemies use as rallying cries to mobilize people
against us are gaining the ascendancy.

The recent Lancet report calls into question the defense that "at
least things are better than under Saddam".

Republicans, largely as a result of the conduct of the war in Iraq,
face the prospect of losing control of one or both houses of Congress
   in November.

I don't know whether it's one of the above, all of the above, some
combination of the above, or something else entirely but I'm really
coming to the conclusion that [3]the world has gone mad.

Tarring Islam with a broad brush may make a grand rallying cry for
like-minded folks in the West but it's a logical, political, and
strategic error as well as being illiberal and unChristian.
