Since I'm tired of hearing from people who claim there is no problem
with Islamophobia among hawks, and further tired of people demanding
that I answer all their questions immediately when they challenge me
on this (even if I've gotten dozens of emails, comments, and
trackbacks all making the same assertions and demands).
Most frustrating is when I even get Dean's World commenters who say
outrageous things, and then two or three comments down there'll be a
comment from someone tellimg me I'm wrong and demanding proof.
I know damn well I'm not the only one who sees this and finds it
nauseating and shameful, and who thinks a call to conscience has long
been in order. Indeed I find it telling that every time I bring it up
I am beseiged with commenters who deny, deny, deny, or who claim I'm
attacking all hawks. Or claim that every time I point to something
it's an isolated incident or out of context.
I've decided it's time to spread the load.
I've also noticed that there are some web sites out there dedicated to
exposing Islamophobia. The problem is that all the ones I've seen are
quite left of center and tend to smear everyone who believes the
Global War On Terror is a real war that must be fought without
apology. Or that terrorism is an exaggerated problem that the Bush
administration uses "scaremongering" to frighten voters. These sites
appear to have no room for genuine hawks who are nevertheless tired of
the excesses of some on their side.
So I'd like to do a weekly roundup of the worst, most unhinged
Muslim-baiting and Muslim-hating found in the blogosphere. It'll
probably focus most intensely on the hawks among us who are totally
unhinged, but that won't mean we won't take note of other examples as
well.
I've already got one blogger to commit to helping me with this. I'll
be in charge of it. Anyone else want to help?
