   The GOP should not have made Gates the new SoD.

   They should have gone with Lieberman [1]as some suggested.

   That way the Republican governor of CT could have appointed a
   Republican Senator in Joe's place and the GOP would not have lost the
   Senate (which they will do once Webb wins).
