Like [1]Michael Totten, I'm not a supporter of the death penalty but I
do support the execution of political figures who are accused of
committing crimes against humanity, including Saddam Hussein.
I also believe that a state has the right to wage war, (ie. to kill
people) in order to defend its sovereignty
I believe that states have the right to inflict violence when
threatened by armed militias, native or not.
Political criminals who have committed crimes against humanity are
threats to a state's sovereignty. The execution of Saddam is
justified, not because the death penalty is just, but because if a
state isn't willing to use violence to defend its sovereignty, it's
not a viable state.
That's the lesson we all should have learned from Lebanon.
