The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1147786850.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got Islam Memo, presents from Iran, child-rearing tips, new
Iraqi blogs, and much, much more.
[1]24 Steps to Liberty posts on the Zarqawi tape and the what the
proclamation of an "Islamic Emirate" might mean.
Seems appropriate for Mother's Day. Child rearing tips from Mama of
[2]Emotions... (mother) and Sunshine of [3]Days of My Life (child).
The post is cross-posted on both blogs.
I think this post from Imad Khadduri of [4]Free Iraq is worth
considering. He presents two accounts of the same incident: a
translated account of a massacre of Iraqi civilians by U. S. and Iraqi
National Guard forces from an Arabic language web site called Islam
Memo and the report of the same incident from Reuters. His implicit
complaint is that Reuters is attempting to present a balanced account.
Here's what the [5]U. S. State Department has to say about Islam Memo:
Islam Memo, or Mafkarat al-Islam, is perhaps the most unreliable
source of "news" about Iraq on the Internet. For example, on March
27, 2005, Islam Memo "news items" translated into English by
Muhammad Abu Nasr claimed that more than 88 U.S. soldiers had been
killed that day. In reality, none had been killed. Such
disinformation fabrications are typical of Islam Memo. In the
ten-day period from March 20 to March 29, 2005, they claimed that
more than 334 U.S. troops had been killed. The real number was
eight.
[6]From Me With Love presents two pictures taken from the same vantage
point. The first was taken last Tuesday before the sudden sandstorm
struck Baghdad. The other was taken during the storm.
Omar of [7]Iraq the Model notes Iran's contributions to stability in
Iraq: anti-aircraft weapons delivered to Al Qaeda there.
[8]Fayrouz in Beaumont has an update from her contact in Basra on the
situation there.
[9]neurotic iraqi wife has a very nice reflection on the U. S.
military government leads she's worked with in the Green Zone.
Miriam of [10]Pearls of Iraq is starting up a Purple Ribbon campaign.
[11]Truth About Iraqis is not pleased about HBO's plans to produce a
comedy about journalists in Iraq.
Zappy of [12]Where Date Palms Grow posts about his visit to the Green
Zone.
There are a couple of fine, new Iraqi bloggers. The first is [13]Iraqi
Screen. Hat tip: Salam Pax who has renamed his blog [14]The Daily
Absurdity Report. The second is [15]Thoughts from Baghdad. Hat tip:
[16]Iraq Blog Count.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [17]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
