   [1]b-52 So, via [2]Milgeek Murdoc, I see that there was an effort to
   reduce the nation's force of B-52 stratofortress bombers [3]that was
   recently blocked in Congress. Those folks in North Dakota and
   Louisiana want to keep those babies flying.

   The B-52 is a rather remarkable airplane. It first entered service in
   1955, and, more to the point, the last one was manufactured in 1962.
   This means the newest one in service is 44 years old, and the average
   crew member on one of those airplanes is considerably younger than the
   plane itself.

   With regular renovations and upgrades, it's expected that these planes
   will still be useful for several more decades to come.
