I don't always keep up with these things, but:

I have recently moved "Hirsi Ali & Extremism" and "Of Bees and Second
Chances" into the [1]Best Of Our Contributors archive. They're not the
only ones that deserve it, and I sometimes forget to think of these
things, but they exemplify the kind of writing that makes me proud to
   run this joint.

I have also recently bumped up "Juan Cole Goes Off The Deep End" in
the rotation, and placed it in the [2]Best Discussions archive,
because I think the discussion there has gotten very heavy and very
heated but sheds much light on certain core issues that divide many
Americans, including issues that go back a half-century or more and
still divide us in surprising ways today. At this point I think I've
said all I want to say in that particular discussion and will let
others have the last word if they want it, but I wanted to preserve
   it.

And I will repeat: I don't always remember the "Best Of" archives.
Sometimes brilliant writing by a commenter, or series of commenters,
or contributor, flies right past me because I'm tired or cranky or
distracted. So I'll re-iterate something I've said many times: Anyone
who's part of Dean's World should feel free to recommend anything to
any of our "Best Of" archives (Best Comments, Best of Our
Contributors, Best Discussions, etc.) at any time. Please don't be shy
about this. Steven Malcolm Anderson never was and you shouldn't be
   either.

And by "part of Dean's World" I mean that you're a contributor, a
commenter, or even just a regular reader. Don't be shy, I don't always
remember or take notice when I should. If it stuck in your memory and
affected you in some way, tell me--in email, by leaving a comment, or
   whatever.

This may sound incredibly corny or incredibly arrogant, but I'd like
to think that someday these archives are something my sons (and if I'm
lucky, my theoretical daughters) look back at and are proud of their
old man for. And if it seems arrogant, so what? I am an arrogant SOB.
   What, you hadn't noticed?
